Commitment to Redress Past Injustices: BB-BEE
- WB&I Inc has for some thirty-five years implemented a transparent, formal and structured internal empowerment programme in order to address historical imbalances
- Out of our total compliment of 75 persons, 53 come from historically disadvantaged groupings. Many of these have been promoted into senior positions of responsibility, which they might not otherwise have been able to hold, were it not for our internal training programmes
- WB&I Inc was awarded an EmpowerDex "AAA +" rating (Level 1 BB - BEE contributor status) in 2011
- Our affirmative action policy extends beyond our immediate employment and training policy. For example, we have habitually and consistently for decades briefed counsel of colour at the Durban and Pietermaritzburg Bars. Many have appointed as Senior Counsel and as Judges of the High and Labour Courts and the Supreme Court of Appeal
- We regularly conduct seminars and provide training to historically disadvantaged attorneys who wish to write conveyancing and other examinations
- We have been honoured by being nominated by Impumelelo as one of South Africa’s Top 300 Empowerment Companies as a result of our contribution to Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment & Transformation
- Bedver Irving started the School for Legal Practice in Durban in 1992 in terms of a mandate from the Law Society of South Africa to the KwaZulu-Natal Law Society. Since then many Directors of WB&I Inc have lectured continuously at the School. The majority of its candidate attorneys and associates are traditionally employed from previously disadvantaged groups.
- WB&I Inc's Managing Director serves as a Trustee of the Charles Rylott Foster Trust, along with a nominee of Transnet Limited, which Trust has the objective of providing scholarships for the education and upliftment of aspirant engineers from historically disadvantaged communities at the University of Natal and the Durban Institute of Technology
- WB&I Inc's policy remains to continue to sow into the legal profession
